Recurring tasks
« on: January 29, 2009, 03:23:36 pm »
First up, OpenGoo rocks. I've been looking for something like this for a long time and I think I've finally found it. I've moved my team of 6 people onto it and it just works at managing their daily tasks and workflow.

One thing I'd like to see is the ability to set a task to recur or repeat. For example, Windows Updates need downloading, testing and installing on a monthly basis. I'd like a task for each step to appear in the task list for my system admin automatically.

Recurrence should allow:
- Repeat every month on a certain date (e.g. the 5th of each month)
- Repeat on a certain day each month (e.g. the 3rd Monday)
- Repeat only on certain days (e.g. every Wednesday and Friday)
- Schedule the next occurrence of the task 10 days after the current instance is marked complete.

I know that there OpenGoo supports repeating events, but I see tasks as a being different in this regard.

Thanks

David

Glad you like it!  ;D

And let me tell you this: I wan recurring tasks badly myself. You can count on that happening soon.  ;)

Have you played with tasks templates?

That's great to hear!

No, I haven't played with Task Templates, but am planning to. We have plenty of reasons to be using this feature.

Thanks again

David

I have some feedback first, and a question below.

Feedback

... let me tell you this: I wan recurring tasks badly myself. You can count on that happening soon.  ;)

I am in agreement with millionleaves on both points:

1) I'm extremely impressed with opengoo! (well, other than the silly name ;) )

2) We also really need the ability to set recurring tasks.  There are many duties that our employees do on a recurring basis, such as posting weekly/monthly updates to the website.  As it stands, We will have to either manually update the due date each month/week/etc, or manually re-create the task each month/week/etc.  I would love to be able to set up a single task and know that once they mark it as complete, it would reappear the next month/week/etc, or something to that effect.  I also agree with the different scheduling options suggested by millionleaves.

Question: This was originally posted two months ago.  I've scoured the site for some mention of this in the beta changelog or maybe on a to-do list for an upcoming version, but I've had no luck.  Do you have any idea of a timeline or even a ballpark on when this feature might be available?  Is it included in the list for the next update?

Beyond this and one or two other small issues, we love opengoo!

Thanks for a sweet app!

Whole hearted agreement with newleaf.

Can we get a version number when we could expect this?

And this is coming from someone calling himself "newleaf"...  ;D  ;D

Can you believe we came to full realization of the issues with the name only after months of work and quite a lot of downloads???

Also, what is it with all the leaves in this post??

Seriously now: thanks for the nice words.

About the recurring tasks
I still want them bad. I want them badly!

Ignacio is making quite a promise here... Let's hope we can stick to it!  :-X
