Email Notification Problem
« on: September 17, 2010, 10:40:14 am »
Can someone please help me with the email notification configurations.  ???

I have provided the below

SMTP server: smtp.gmail.com
Port: 465
SMTP address: emailname@gmail.com
Use secure SMTP connection: Yes, use SSL
Email fetch limit: 10
Enable IMAP synchronization when sending emails from Feng Office: no

I am using fengoffice 1.7.1 on windows 2003 server.

Appreciate, if this someone can help me in sending email notifications. :(

I am not even able to send emails with even default php settings. Please let me know how to enable this one too.

Thanks,
Sri

Hi there, please do not use the PHP default settings, use the "SMTP Server" ones.

Do check this thread for more information as it has been asked something similar. Take into account that the first posts are rather old, so check the last posts from page 1 and all posts from page 2.

Greetings!!

PS: I would either use 1.7 or 1.7.2 version since 1.7.1 has some annoying bugs

The following settings work fine in my installation:

MS Exchange compatibility mode: No
Mail transport: SMTP server
SMTP server: smtp.gmail.com
Port: 465
SMTP address: emailname@gmail.com
Use SMTP authentication: Yes
SMTP username: emailname@gmail.com
SMTP password: mypassword
Use secure SMTP connection: Yes, use SSL
Email fetch limit: 10
Enable IMAP synchronization when sending emails from Feng Office: no

Remember to check the Cron Events settings as well..

Greetings!

Found the issue. The settings franponce87 specify above do indeed work, however, when testing, in the tools area use the Mass Mailer and select one recipient.

DO NOT USE THE "TEST MAIL SETTINGS" IT IS TRASH!

I spent 2 hours banging my head against the wall before I figured this out. The truth is, I believe that gmail's smtp servers reject the mail sending because it does not contain a valid subject line.

I am not quite sure about the Testing tools (which I will test whenever I can), but it has also been reported that sometimes the problem happens due to the server where Feng Office installation is running at, blocks the 465 and 25 port.. so please double check with them as well.

What I'm saying is that emailing and notifications work fine (of course using 465 for smtp with gmail and SSL), but the test mailer still fails to send the mail, however, the mass mailer works fine.

The "Mass mailer" does work fine, however the "Test mail settings" had some problems which I have already fixed (the problem had nothing to do with the subject by the way).
Anyway, this fix will be added in the next version! Thanks for letting us know of its existence!

Best regards,
Francisco
