Activity status too chatty

I've just upgraded to 1.7, and I like the concept of presenting recent activity, as it allows me to better see what recently changed.  However, I have some major issues with it, which I think need to be fixed.

- There needs to be a way to filter what appears in the activity list.
- When I delete a comment (including emptying the trash), there still is a listing of the creation of the comment (including the text) in the activity.  The listing needs to better respond to deleted items.

This has promise, but it needs better implementation.

There also needs to be a way to hide activity in the permissions setting.

I would also like to see "Recent Activity" and "Direct URL" at the bottom and not in between separating the content from the comments. You can read the topic below to see how I reordered the sections.

Options to change activity feedback would be very helpful!

The 'chattiness' makes it very hard for staff to see useful info (i.e. changes in status of tasks they are working with other people on) and is too cluttered by more technical info (editing of users, etc.). to be very helpful right now.

The activity widget is a great idea, but its potential/usefulness lies in its use as a summary of pertinent events rather than a listing of all events.

It would be much more helpful if it could be filtered so we could use it for the more collaborative aspects of work (comments, updates, assignments) rather than technical information (adding/deleting users, etc) that only administrators would be interested in.
