Import Contacts - button?
« on: June 22, 2010, 04:05:22 am »
Leaving my test area on version opengoo 1.5.3 I wanted to export my datas (contacts, companies) to import them in feng office 1.7.

And now my strange (hopefully not stupid) question:
Where is the Button "Do the Import" or which click triggers the action to get my datas into my 1.7 platform?

Thanks for a quick, secret help
(My God, what a question!)

In the contacts panel you should click on the toolbar "import" button

Sorry cabeza, I might have been a bit imprecise. After choosing the Import/Contact/csv-Item I defined the path-and-Filename plus checkbox firstline and delimiter and then .... [see attachment]

Ok. I understand importing contacts is not working for you.

In order to isolate the problem:

Can you please try with a simpler importation (maybe one contact with only ASCII chars in its information) ?

Good Morning cabeza

I did a few tests:

1) I reduced my contact.csv from the old version (1.5.3) down to one contact, checked the characters and tried again -> no import possible.

2) I used the new single company in the new version (1.7) and first exported it in csv-File. A <contacts.csv> was created (Oops!). No Import possible

mmhh...

What I have not realized yet is the way to initiate the import itself.

First I choose the file
Then I check <Yes/No> for first row as header
Then I define the delimiter, which is dedicated from the export with a comma

Then I looked for a button to start the import...

What shall happen, when I choose a file? Something similar as in the export routine? (fieldlist, button etc.)

Attached you find the (anonymised) <contact.csv>, as it was created by the export-routine.

Thanks for your help

To get the issue solved quickly, the fastest way seems to be to:
1.- Backup your 1.5.3 filesystem and DB
2.- Upgrade it to 1.7
3.- Export the file
4.- Import the file again in your other new 1.7

We'll revise the bug anyways, but it will take time.

Let us know what you do  ...

Sorry cabeza,

I didn't want to be unpolite not to answer, but the project was cancelled, so I was not forced to continue solving the problem.

But I am back with an even bigger and - for me - more interesting project where I have suggested to use fengoffice. So I need your help on other issues (seperate posting)

thanks
markus

@Cabeza: Feng is now at 1.7.3.1 and still there is no import button. I have exactly the same screen as Markus, and also the same problem: Where is the 'Import' button?
By the way. the button IS there when choosing Vcard import, but then it just doesn't do anything. It quickly flashes a loading msg, and some http activity in the browser, but nothing happens.

Hi Markus... there IS an Import button in the Contacts tab.. and once you select the vCard file there also is a button which does say 'Import'. I have no idea which problem are you experiencing with it, but I have been able to import and export contacts without any trouble.. Have you checked your log at all for any error? Have you tried doing this action in a different browser? Are you sure the file you are trying to import is not corrupted?

Best regards,
Francisco

With me it was a browser issue. Opera didn't show the button and refused to import the vcard
