Too much spam is showing up on the forum...

Can we get a bit firmer with the board moderation?  I've marked a lot of messages in the past weeks and months - and they keep showing up...  It's annoying!

Yep, it is annoying. We are constantly battling it.

It is great to have people like you reporting it. We take action on the particular post immediately, and keep an eye on tips to better fight it.

Considering it's SMF, there are some ncie plugins to combat spam. I'll check later to see which ones I have running on my SMF-installations.

Kind of ironic, 3 new spam posts tonite.

Yes, I reported three more that day, and I just reported 6 or 8 more.

Two things annoy me a little bit.

First - these messages have already been viewed a bunch of times, but nobody has reported them.

Second - I have to wait at least 30 seconds between spam reports because it's an ANTI-SPAM measure!  So it takes me a long time to report spam as spam!

Can a few of us at least get permission to post at will?  Those of us who promise not to spam under threat of eternal banishment?  Or, maybe anybody with over 250 posts could?  Or, something?

1. To be fair, you and I don't see when others report spam, unless you are a moderator/admin.
2. Painful! In fact there are 4 new spam emails in Getting Started, but that would take me > 2 minutes to report, so I'm going to stop reporting spams, I just don't have the time.

I'm still pretty certain many of these are not bots but humans, or possibly just the sign up process is humans, which is why all the captchas and anti-bot registration plugins don't always work. Assume this is the case to be more successful in catching these.

Admittedly I am assuming they were unreported, because the moderators have been nearly instantaneous in the past when I've reported spam, even being so fast as to already have deleted the third spam by the time I get through the 30-second wait-cycles to report it.

I'll continue reporting it though, it has to be done to preserve the forums.

We've installed akismet. Let us know if you don't see any changes. And we'll continue looking for other solutions.

I haven't had any reports for several days, and I continue to monitor the forums (the English ones) at least once a day.  Sorry, I don't speak the other languages well enough to be effective.
