Document editing workflow
« on: April 01, 2009, 01:08:58 pm »
I like the document management features of OG, but the work flow seems a bit clunky.
If I want to work on 'test.doc':
  • Check out the file
  • Download the file
  • Edit the file
  • Find the file on disk that was edited
  • Check in and upload the new version
If I check it out and d/l it again, I'll have the orig. file ('test.doc') and a new version ('test(2).doc').  Delete test.doc, rename test(2).doc -> test.doc, etc.

If I could specify the d/l location, and that were remembered by OG when I check in the file, that would go a long way to streamlining this operation.

Or am I missing something that already exists?

The download location is specified by your browser. You usually can configure this location or ask the browser to prompt you each time where to save the file.

Also note that you don't need to rename test(2).doc to test.doc, because the file name is not changed when you check in a file, unless you change it explicitly.
