OpenGoo 0.8 released
« on: September 02, 2008, 01:04:57 am »
OpenGoo 0.8 is another important step towards the 1.0 release. It fixes several bugs, and adds some new features, such as:

  • Time Tracking: There is now time tracking functionality for the tasks module. It is not finished yet, but it is working.
  • Task priority: Tasks can be assigned a priority
  • Projects Templates: A first approach on task and milestone templates is presented. It will probably mutate a lot. Basically, templates include a set of tasks or milestones with predefined properties set.
  • 'Reply to all' and forwarding features for email were added.
  • Improved system navigation: There are still some issues, but the navigation (closing forms, back button) is getting better.
  • Better support of Safari: It still has some bugs though, your input is welcome!
  • Spanish translation: First Spanish translation (Uruguayan Spanish, if there is such a thing) can be set in config/config.php with ('DEFAULT_LOCALIZATION' = 'es_uy')
  • Tons of bugs fixed (assuming that one bug weighs a ton – Warning: Ignacio might have a copyright on the joke. Left here for community consideration  ;D ).

Oh, before someone asks: 'just what is the 1.0 release?'... Well, even us don't know what it is!

We can promise you this: it will have a few more features, and a lot less bugs. Basically, when we feel confident we've killed the bigger and uglier bugs, then we will have a 1.0. Now, if you tried say, release 0.5, you will see why this is an important step. The app is getting much better, much more 'robust'.

We try to work on a roadmap. We've been promising it for a long time. But the truth is that, the minute we scratch a draft, something happens that changes it all. It could be a cool idea, a new request - some obvious thing we missed - or an ugly bug that makes us realize we have to change some functionality. The promise remains though, we will have a roadmap, and you'll be first to know! ;)

what can we do if we would like to help get a roadmap set up?

Have considered making it a project through launchpad, or something like that?

We started setting up in launchpad, but we gave it up briefly.

The most important issue is: "the roadmap" is a very abstract concept at OpenGoo. It is what we discuss over here, on one-to-one discussions, over at meetings, what customers ask and are willing to pay for...

If we publish it, then we would have to strive to commit to it. We set up short-term goals, and let each developer go for it. It seems like innovation can better come through in this way.

So we try to promise little, and improve on what we feel offices need for better collaboration, productivity, and information management.
