Feature requests / May we double-click a column to add it to a report?
« on: February 16, 2010, 01:09:32 pm »
Every time I make a custom report, I find myself double-clicking a column name and expecting it to jump over to the "selected" box in the 'Columns to print' section of the report designer.  That's just how native Windows applications work.

Is that possible to implement?

Also I noticed that when I accidentally clicked the >> button and all fields were added, when I clicked the << button to put them back on the left hand side they were no longer in their original order.  Fields that I had selected were now on top.  I don't know if you consider that a bug or not, but it did take me a second to figure out what had happened.

How To's / Why is a spreadsheet needed?
« on: February 13, 2010, 12:01:53 am »
Sorry for this question many of you may feel is stupid.

I read a lot of posts that say Feng Office is incomplete because it does not have a spreadsheet or other function.

I'm only a user for a few weeks, so I'm not as "seasoned" as many of you.

Because I can toss in a web-link to a Google Doc Spreadsheet or Document, and because those have a rich set of features, I don't understand why a spreadsheet (or general Office functionality like documents or presentations) is necessary in Feng Office.

Actually, I don't understand why e-mail is necessary either, when there are so many excellent e-mail clients available.

I honestly don't mean this as a criticism of Feng Office, or of other posters, I'm just wondering what am I missing?

Feng Office seems to me to be a good project/task/subtask environment, and a way to collaborate/communicate among team members.  I looked at over a dozen products that were stand-alone, or add-ons to Outlook/Exchange, or add-ons to SharePoint (like Bamboo, etc.), but none of them was fast and furious about projects/tasks/subtasks.

Project management features like gantt charts and reports seem to be more unique and differentiating for Feng Office than "also ran" features like oft-found document and office-related features?

I accept that I may just not "get it".  I welcome your responses.

Ideas / Task notification e-mail could use more info!
« on: February 12, 2010, 04:35:54 pm »
For those of us who are already used to living in Outlook all day (or any other integrated PIM environment) it would be awesome to have task notification emails include just a little more information.

Currently they include the task name and a hyperlink to the task, and at the bottom I believe they also include the company and workspace.

If they were to also include the due date, and task description, that would be extremely helpful.  If they were formatted the same each time we could also use a lot of rules to process them!  Kind of a poor-man's API.  Both Outlook and GMail have extensive rule/filter capabilities.

If I knew how to do it myself, I would have already and I would have posted the code  :-\

Something like:
=================================
You have been assigned the following task:

[Title:]
[Description:]
[Due Date:]
[URL:]
[Company:]
[Workspace:]

Feature requests / Expand all?
« on: February 10, 2010, 11:44:47 pm »
Some way to "Expand All" in the workspaces would be a huge time-saver.

I have quite a tree of workspaces, and many times throughout the day I have to open my way down through the tree to get to where I want to be.

It would be great to be able to hold down the Shift key while clicking the little "+" symbol, and have all of the branches of that tree open up.  Holding Shift while clicking the All workspace could expand all branches.

Conversely, it could also collapse all...

How To's / Charts?
« on: February 10, 2010, 07:46:03 pm »
I notice while trolling the tables in the database that there are provisions for charts...  Am I to assume that is part of the someday-to-be-released spreadsheet feature?

Feature requests / Free Gantt application, same icon as Feng Office.
« on: February 09, 2010, 10:41:45 pm »
I noticed Gantter.com today, and how it has the same "Resources" icon as Feng Office's "Users" icon.

The application is free, but I don't think Open Source.  It imports and exports XML files that are MS Project compatible, so I may try to get my projects out of MySQL and into it, although we're looking into the Google Visualizations API right now as well.

Just thought I'd share.

Feature requests / GTD-esque features!
« on: February 08, 2010, 11:35:54 pm »
I've incorporated David Allen's "Getting Things Done" (GTD) into Feng Office by using the basic tags for context (@home, @office, @errand, @phone, @online) and for status (!wait, !action, !next, !someday) on my milestones and tasks.

How about considering working GTD features into Feng Office a bit more as an option for heavy-duty taskers?

Feature requests / Reorder un-dated tasks/subtasks by dragging/dropping?
« on: February 08, 2010, 11:20:20 pm »
In the Tasks view, the tasks and subtasks obviously appear in due date order by default.

It would be awesome to be able to re-order those tasks/subtasks that don't *have* a due date by dragging and dropping them in the desired order.

Maybe it's possible and I'm just too much of a noob to know how?

Feature requests / First level of task edit - include "due date"?
« on: February 08, 2010, 10:58:12 pm »
Would it be possible to include the "Due Date" on the first level of task editing, such that when you are entering a task for the first time, the Due Date appears?

The cogent fields seem to me to be Description, Assign To, Email Notification and Due Date, not necessarily Time Worked, but that's just me.

While in the Admin screens, the Back button (not the browser Back button, but the Feng Office back button) is on the top left side of the screen.

While in the object views, like Task or Milestone or Document - when you're viewing an object the Close button is on the top right of the screen.

When I want to get back out of a screen, I don't really think about whether it's an object or a screen or a task or a whatever, I just want the "get back to what I was doing" button to be in the same place.

Can Feng Office pick one side or the other?

Feature requests / Shortcut clicks!
« on: February 08, 2010, 10:50:52 pm »
When viewing Tasks, it's possible to click "Edit" or "Complete" on each task, or to click the name of the task and bring up the Task-specific view.  That's it.

It would be awesome to be able to click on a couple more things - for instance, clicking on the due date would allow you to enter a new due date and/or click "postpone" to push the task out another day.

Clicking on the "recycle arrow icon" for a recurring event could be the same as clicking "Generate Task Repetition" in the Task-specific view.

I'm still a newb so bear with me, but as I use the system for hours each day, it seems these things would make it faster and easier.

Feature requests / Can dates *please* default in the current year?
« on: February 08, 2010, 04:56:39 pm »
Having to type a complete date really wastes keystrokes and time.

Can we please have all date fields default in the current year if not supplied?

So typing 1/1 would at this point default to 1/1/10 when the field lost focus...

How To's / How to view more than 5 users?
« on: February 06, 2010, 10:07:26 am »
I have many users, and soon will have many more, which creates several problems...

1.  Only being able to see 5 at a time is very limiting, can I see 20?
2.  There's no way to jump to the "M's" for instance, I have to guess what page they might be on.  Is there a way to navigate by name?
3.  Every time I make a change, it takes me back to the first page of users and I have to jump back into the pages, again guessing which one the person of interest might be on.

This is adding quite a bit of work :(  Is there an easier way that I just have not found?

How To's / How to tell what users are currently logged in?
« on: February 05, 2010, 08:12:26 pm »
Is there a way for me to know who is currently logged into the system - as much as a stateless environment like the web would allow?

As the administrator, I don't want to be resetting the system while users are logged on,...

Many thanks for your ideas!

New Community Members / Hello from around the world
« on: February 05, 2010, 07:51:35 pm »
Hello, new company and new user of Feng Office, with operations globally.

We are excited to be trying Feng Office installed on our own server, and we are enjoying many of the features.  We also are looking forward to the impending addition of spreadsheet(s) et. al.

We are working on data extraction and gantt charting, as well as general familiarity with the system.

We will be posting in many of the threads and asking some questions, but wanted to start with a brief introduction.

Thank you!
