« on: January 27, 2009, 04:00:51 pm »
Second beta of OpenGoo 1.2 is out. This release fixes some bugs from OpenGoo 1.2 beta but still has more bugs to fix. We think we are a couple of releases away from the final version so we decided to release a second beta before the release candidates. You can download it here.

To upgarde from 1.2 beta just unzip OpenGoo 1.2 beta 2 to your installation. You don't need to run any upgrade procedure unless you are upgrading from 1.1 or older versions.

Bugs fixed on this release are:
usability: Allow to hide filtering panels on the object picker.
- Trashed email was being incorrectly sorted.
- Email widget showed trashed email.
- Fixed a problem when downloading a backup.
- Error when checking in files "There is no session matching this name".
- Following a link from an email notification to a content object would show the dashboard.
- Email with trailing whitespace was not being considered valid.
- Missing langs on notifications.
- Invalid controller action when viewing a webpage from an email notification link.

This version is for testing and evaluation, not for production use. We count on your feedback so that we can release a stable product for version 1.2, in three weeks. You can report bugs at http://bugs.opengoo.org and you can contact us for suggestions, comments, etc. here at the forums.

If you are a translator, now it's the best time to start updating translation files to version 1.2.

Whats new in 1.2:

  • Importing and Exporting:
    • Import/Export support for iCalendar files.

  • Cron events
    • Some common procedures like checking email can be configured to be done by a cron job so that you don't have to do them manually, saving you time and improving the user experience (just refresh the email panel to get new email).

    • Now you can subscribe other users to an object you create (be it a note, a document, etc.) and you will be notified when the object is created, modified, commented on or deleted.

Announcements / OpenGoo 1.1
« on: December 30, 2008, 04:06:10 pm »
OpenGoo 1.1 is the new stable version of OpenGoo, recommended over 1.0. It is the result of a new development cycle that we have been following since 1.0, in order to achieve more stability with our new releases. OpenGoo 1.1 has been thoroughly tested by the community and ourselves to ensure that most of the bugs were corrected.

Is OpenGoo 1.1 bug-free? Most certainly not. Like with most software, it would be impossible to test OpenGoo under all possible configurations, so bugs may arise, and if they do we count on you to report them and help all of the community. However, we are confident that this release is the most stable version of OpenGoo to date.

Here's a quick overview of the new features since 1.0:
    - Trash can. Object's can now be moved to the trash can, so that you don't lose them permanently when deleting them.
    - Objects now have an autogenerated unique id to identify them.
    - Import contacts from a CSV file.
    - New Time tracking tab.
    - Quick edit for tasks in the Tasks interface.
    - New webservices API.
    - Usability and performance improvements
    - Many bug fixes.

You can download the new version here: https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=191520&package_id=224940&release_id=650319

You can report bugs here: http://bugs.opengoo.org

The first Release Candidate for version 1.1 is out!

General Discussion / Should OpenGoo 1.1 hide the email module by default?
« on: December 12, 2008, 09:53:42 am »
The email module is currently buggy and hangs up OpenGoo on some settings. Besides that, it is not too usable and it lacks support for some protocols. That's why we decided hiding OpenGoo's email module by default, as we think it is not ready for prime time. This will be only for version 1.1 as we expect (though we can't be 100% sure) that it will be working fine for version 1.2.

What do you think about this? Should the email module be hidden by default? Please try to think about OpenGoo as a product, and not about your particular situation. E.g. if you are using the E-Mail module you wouldn't want it to be hidden, so you may be tempted to vote for "No", but if you agree that the email module is not finished maybe you should consider voting for "Hide only for new installations". If you think that the email module is fine as it is you would want to vote for "No".

Thanks for your feedback.

Announcements / OpenGoo 1.1 beta released!
« on: December 08, 2008, 06:12:09 pm »
OpenGoo 1.1 beta is the first step towards OpenGoo 1.1 final. Since it is a beta version it has not been tested thoroughly enough for use in productions environment, so we recommend to stay with OpenGoo 1.0 in production environments and use OpenGoo 1.1 beta for testing or evaluation purposes. We would greatly appreciate if everyone in the OpenGoo community could take some time to download this version, test it (use it as you normally use OpenGoo) and report any bugs you find to http://bugs.opengoo.org. As always, all of the community would benefit from this effort.

This beta version is also an opportunity for translators to update their 1.0 translations to 1.1. In order to make the translators' job easier, OpenGoo 1.1 beta includes a tool to help translate OpenGoo to other languages. It is accessible through '<opengoo's root url>/public/tools/translate.php'. It is disabled by default but can be enabled by adding 'translate.php' to the comma separated list in '<opengoo>/public/tools/access.php'. Using this tool can save you the hassle of dealing with encodings and file formats. With this tool you can see which translations your files are missing and edit them as needed. Once you have finished translating to your locale you can find your translation files in the '<opengoo>/language' folder. Send us the translation files and we will release them with version 1.1 final.

Enough preamble, this is what is new in OpenGoo 1.1:

  • Trash can:
          - Deleted Content Objects (CO) are now moved to the trash can, so that you don't lose them permanently. The trash can can be configured to automatically delete files older than X days. You can access the trash can by clicking the Trash pseudo-workspace on the Workspace Panel. Here you can browse all deleted objects and restore or permanently delete objects.

  • Time tracking:
          - There now is a time tracking tab to track time independently of tasks. This allows you or your company to keep track of activities you have done that are not directly related to a task, with a quick and simple user interface.

  • Unique ids:
          - You can now identify COs by an autogenerated unique id that is shown on the CO's properties. By searching for this ID you can directly access the CO you are looking for. This is especially useful, for example, if you need to link an object in OpenGoo with a real world object, like a document. By keeping a reference to this ID on the real world document you can quickly access the related CO.

  • Importing contacts:
          - OpenGoo 1.1 beta allows you to import contacts from a CSV file. You can access this feature through the Contacts tab, New menu, Import. CSV files can be created from many Contact managers, so this allows you to quickly migrate your contacts from another application into OpenGoo.

  • Tasks improvements:
          - Now you have a quick edit view for tasks, that lets you easily edit tasks without leaving the main tasks interface.
          - Tasks you are working on can now be paused. This allows you to pause an activity and resume it later without the need to create separate time slots.
          - There are new printer-friendly views for printing a task, as well as a task listing in the tasks interface.

  • Tools for administration:
          - A web interface for translating OpenGoo.
          - A script to check for missing translations.
          - A script for checking email from outside of OpenGoo.
          - A tool to compress javascript and CSS to improve initial loading times.

  • Webservices for developers:
          - Data in OpenGoo can now be accessed through webservices, which allows developers to develop plugins for OpenGoo. For example, an OpenOffice plugin could be developed that loads a document from OpenGoo and when the user saves it it is uploaded back to OpenGoo.

  • System changes:
          - A PDO/MySQL backend to access the database was implemented.
          - Now you can install OpenGoo on MySQL servers that only support the MyISAM engine, although we highly recommend using InnoDB when available.
          - The installation now tries to automatically create the database if it doesn't exist and the database user has permissions.
          - Fixed a Cross-Site Scripting vulnerability in OpenGoo.

  • Usability improvements:
          - Several small usability improvements from version 1.0. Check the readme.txt file in the download for a complete list.

  • Bugfixes:
          - Lots of bugs where fixed from version 1.0. Check the readme.txt file in the download for a complete list.

What we will be working on for next release:

  • Email
          - Email will leave the Beta status on version 1.2. We will focus on fixing bugs, implementing more mail protocols and improving mail usability.

  • Importing/Exporting
          - We will work on many new ways of importing data to OpenGoo and exporting data out of it.

So please, download OpenGoo 1.1 beta and start testing. Please submit bugs to http://bugs.opengoo.org. Thanks.

Announcements / OpenGoo 0.7.1 released! (Security Update)
« on: August 05, 2008, 11:10:38 am »
Version 0.7.1 of OpenGoo was released.

This version was released to quickly solve a couple of important bugs in release 0.7, but we also included some improvements here and there.

An important bug was fixed that could delete all of your files and messages when deleting a workspace, so it is highly recommended that you update to version 0.7.1.

The bug that named all downloaded files as index.php was corrected.

The tasks interface was enhanced by better displaying the info related to a task (its assignee, workspaces where it lies, etc) and some bugs that could break the interface were fixed.

Now you can see a Content Object's workspaces highlighted with its color in all listings, so that you can more easily see were a CO is located within the workspace hierarchy.

That's all for now. Any complaints or compliments can be stated through these forums.

Thank you for being part of the OpenGoo community!  :D
