Announcements / Feng Office Forum Policies
« on: August 04, 2015, 07:15:07 pm »
Hi everyone.

We love to have you around and work together to build the best possible Feng Office.

Keeping track of the forum is hard work, and we need all the help we can get.

We have the help of some awesome volunteers, some of which unfortunately spend as much time reporting abuse and spam as they do helping others.

Please make their work easier.

Rules are simple:
  • Be nice
  • No spam, of any sort
  • No foul language

We sometimes give a warning (depending on how blatant the offense is). Sometimes we don't.

Failing to follow the rules leads to users being banned and all their posts being deleted.

Thanks for your help!

There are thousands of small and medium sized business associations, chambers and professional societies that have been using Feng Office over the years.

They are happy with it.

But they had a few requirements that weren't met by the standard editions.

So we developed a special edition for them: Feng Office for Business Associations.

We are still in the process of developing communications material to showcase the specifics, but in a nutshell, this is what they do:
  • Manage Contact Databases
  • Billing and invoicing its members
  • Document Management
  • Communicating with its members and relevant audiences
  • Event planning and management (Including conferences, courses and meetings)

Do you work in a business association? Does this sound familiar?

We would love to hear your story and insight.

Also, if you run a Spanish-speaking Association, we already have material in Spanish at: http://www.fengasociaciones.com/

Looking forward to your feedback!

http://www.fengasociaciones.com/

Feng Office 2 / Use this for reporting bugs
« on: July 27, 2015, 07:48:20 pm »
We have a bug tracking system for bugs reported by the (unsupported) Community Edition users:
http://www.fengoffice.com/web/bugs/

It is a much better system than the forum.

Sorry, but we simply have too much work as it is, so it is nearly impossible to track bug reports through forum posts.

We recommend using the forum only for how-to's and issues which you don't know wether are bugs or not.

If you are certain it is a bug, please take a little more time for reporting through the appropriate channel and help is in organizing and prioritizing issues. We all win.

Thanks!

PS 1: If you have a support plan contracted with us, you are welcome to contact us directly for personalized support.
PS 2: If you are still on version 2.X, please do upgrade! Trust me: the latest version is now - without any doubt- a much better solution. And you'll get faster and better support.

Feng Office 3 / Feng Office 3.0: Getting the word out
« on: December 22, 2014, 12:39:09 pm »
If you've followed Feng Office for a while you'll know that one of the skills at which we don't excel (to put it mildly  :P ) is marketing.

But now that Feng Office 3.0 is out, we would love to get help spreading the word.

This is by far (in our opinion, of course) the best Feng Office ever. So we want people to learn about it and check it out.

We have crafted a Press Release. While I feel it might be a little "pompous", I do believe that we need to start being more vocal and reflectin our pride in our communication.

So here it is. If you have any suggestions and comments to improve it, and would like to provide somme help in spreading the word for Feng Office (be it in the distribution of the PR, or by other means), please contact us. You can leave a message here or PM me.

New Feng Office disrupts the Project Management and Collaboration space, again
Austin, TX – December 22, 2014 -‐ Feng Corp., developer of the popular solution for project management and collaboration platform Feng Office, announced today its third major release in its 7 years history. Feng Office 3.0 introduces a whole new experience for its users, establishing Feng Office as the most robust platform for collaborative and professional project management and business operations.

Conrado Viña, CEO of Feng Office, said, “While the Feng Office 2.X series had reached a high maturity level, and our clients advocate the significant productivity and efficiency gains enabled by our solutions, we knew there was room for improvement. We had three goals with Feng Office 3.0: First was the enhancement of the user experience, smoothing the learning curve being the main focus. Second was the completion of the ambitious ‘dimension-‐based’ architecture that was introduced with Feng Office 2.0. Last, we wanted to lay the foundation for positioning Feng Office as the standard for professional project and business processes management”.

Francisco Ponce de León, Senior VP, said, “We couldn’t be more excited. Feng Office 3.0 is the culmination of years of research and development, gathering the feedback of literally tens of thousands of users. From a business perspective, the new experience will definitely impact our initial engagement rates. My personal favorites are the powerful productivity features like templates, automatic processes, and automatic classification of e-‐mails for relationship management and collaborative purposes.”

Andrew Kauffman, CTO, said, “The team is extremely proud. This is the system that we always intended, and it took years to get to this point. We are pioneers in utilizing the dimensions concept outside of OLAP and Datawarehousing, which posed many challenges to our architecture and development process.”

The ‘dimensions’ concept utilized by Feng Office is unique among Collaboration Platforms and enhances the flexibility of the information structure, allowing all types of business and public organizations’ CIOs to build a collaborative platform that reflects their own information schemas and classification. Balancing this powerful extensibility with the increasing market demands for ease of use has been a big challenge for the Feng Office team but, judging from their confidence and customer feedback, one that successful organizations fully embrace in anticipation of the changing needs that result from business growth.

About Feng Corp.: Feng Corp. (aka Feng Office) is the developer of the Feng Office suite of software systems integrating functions for team collaboration, organization, projects, clients, processes and document management.
Founded in 2007, Feng Office develops and provides support for its three Feng Office suites: Community, Professional, and Enterprise Edition. Over 3 million people use Feng Office systems worldwide. Feng Office has local offices in the USA, Netherlands, and Uruguay, with heavy expansion plans for 2015."

Thanks!

Announcements / Feng Office 3.0 - or the beginning of a new era.
« on: December 18, 2014, 07:18:35 pm »
Feng Office 3.0 is out.

What can we say? After over 2 years of work, we can't believe it.

So thank you!

 ;D

While the Feng Office 2.X series had reached a high maturity level, you (our users, our clients) have showed us great support, and have expressed your satisfaction with the feature set, productivity and efficiency gains, and overall experience, we knew there was room for improvement.

We had three goals with Feng Office 3.0:
  • First was the enhancement of the user experience, smoothing the learning curve being the main focus.
  • Second was the completion of the ambitious ‘dimension-based’ architecture that was introduced with Feng Office 2.0.
  • Last, we wanted to lay the foundation for positioning Feng Office as the standard for professional project and business processes management

And while we don't feel Feng Office 3.0 is the culmination of all this hard work (there is a lot more to be done) this is, by far, our proudest moment.

Thanks again, everyone, for your support and your patience.

We hope you like it us much as we do.

Read more on the blog post and, please, share your comments.

In Feng Office 2.3.2 a new (very cool) feature was added.

Permissions can now be configured to be save on background.

This feature provides a significant performance boost - specially for large-size installations.

Why was this improvement necessary?
Because in larger installations, permission changes could mean that a lot of DB records had to be updated. Sometimes changing a users's permissions or changing a workspace or project permissions could take a long time.

So this powerful feature was added, allowing administrators to make these changes and keep on working, while the system would save the permissions "in the background", with a separate process.

More on this setting can be found here.

Required considerations
Not all servers can handle this option. For starters, your server needs to enable the 'exec' php function.

So we now (Feng Office 3.0) changed this setting to not be enabled by default for new installations.

This means that people will have fewer obstacles when installing a new Feng Office system. But administrators should be aware of this setting now, and enable it once the installation grows large enough and permission changes start to take a big impact on system performance.

New Community Members / New to Feng Office? Say hi.
« on: December 03, 2014, 11:41:09 am »
If you are new to Feng Office we would love to hear about you.

Tell us how you found Feng Office, what you are using (or want to use) it for, and any other information you believe the community (the other users) will find useful.

Basic rules of conduct while posting on the forum include:
  • Be nice.
  • Be extra-nice to the people helping you
  • Do not spam.
  • Do not "demand" a solution. Rather, ask how you might get help to find a solution.
  • Try to avoid references (good or bad) to alternative (competing) systems.

How to avoid spamming
Most of you know what this is, and how to avoid it. ;)

Basically: try not to link to your organization's website, blog, marketplace, etc., unless it is absolutely necessary and/or useful.

Luckily, many users will report posts that are suspect of being spam.

When spamming on a useful post, we will likely edit it to remove the spam, and warn the user one time.

Recurring spammers, or new users that blatantly spam on the first post, will be removed (along with their posts) and banned immediately (as soon as we find out).

Why it is better to ask than to demand
The forum is supported and maintained mainly by volunteers.

Feng Office developers and staff will -from time to time- jump in and provide some help too.

So people here has absolutely NO OBLIGATION to help anyone else. They do so because they want to help.

And people who like to help like it better when they read a nice explanation, and a nice request. Nobody likes rude complaints. ;)

How to avoid references to other systems
We know there are many great (and some not so great) alternatives to Feng Office.

And we like comparisons. They do help us improve. We keep an eye on other Collaboration Platforms and Project Management systems, and comparison charts.

But this forum is about Feng Office and how to make Feng Office better. So if, for example, you wish Feng Office had a feature that is present on another system, please take the time to describe the feature (On the "Ideas" or "Feature requests" boards) as you would like to have it in Feng Office. No reference to the system where you saw it first is necessary (and can even be misleading).

Thanks!
