This is what is stated at the opengoo.org front page:
What are other reasons you can think of to justify the effort of making OpenGoo?

The question "why make OpenGoo?" has many answers. It is difficult to try to sum them briefly, and we believe that, together, we will be finding new reasons everyday.
The way people work has changed, and is changing, dramatically over the last few years. Office Suites, the Internet, mobile devices; all have made our work much more productive and new tools are invented and refined everyday.
Google is one company that is excelling in the development of this fields, bringing all of them together, and has helped shape what it is now known as a Web Office. Google Apps are a great gift to the global community, and an inspiration.
As great as Google apps ares, there are some shortcomings to its inception.
Trust
Most individuals might trust to have their data hosted in Google servers. But most organizations won't. That is especially true when your organization has critical data that can't, by contract, be hosted with third parties.
Flexibility
Imagine you start hosting all your data with Google. Then one day, for whatever reason, you want to quit Google and switch to another service provider. Bring the info In-house maybe. It is possible, no doubt about it. But how easy will that be? You can't access Google code nor Data Bases. Just imagine it.
Another shortcoming for not being able to access the code of your content management systems? You can not modify it.
Reliability
One can't imagine Google going out of business. Google backups all its servers, and will do so better than myself. It is going to take a third world war of something worst for that to happen. Right? Right?? Who knows. You do not manage it. How can you measure that risk?
You notice all the "beta" tags in Google Applications? Well, that means something CAN go wrong.
More
And then, there are "the other" reasons. Check out the discussions at the forum. We would be glad to learn your opinion too!
