Announcements / New forum structure
« on: September 11, 2008, 11:36:12 am »
We changed the forum topics and structure quite a bit.

Everything was going to the 'General Discussion' board. Let's hope the new structure helps better organize the forum and info.

Cheers!

General Discussion / Re: MVC pattern in opengoo
« on: July 25, 2007, 10:49:14 am »
The application architecture and framework is basically the same as activecollab's 0.7.1

It seems like it was developed by Ilija, but unfortunately he didn't document it. Here is a post at the activecollab forum about the subject.

On the upside, it looks quite well done, so it should be easy to figure out. As a matter of fact, I had to, in order to add the OpenGoo features. So, if you would like to discuss any particular issue, I could help.

Definitions / Definition of Web Office
« on: May 27, 2007, 09:19:54 pm »
A web office is a set of applications hosted on a server that enable users to create, edit and share information.

It is a derivative of the Desktop Office Suite, but has more collaboration capabilities due to its Web nature.

Document creation and edition applications

    * Word processor
    * Spreadsheet
    * Presentation Program
    * Flowchart
    * Raster image processor

Web Publishing Applications

    * CMS
    * Portal
    * Wiki
    * Blog
    * Forums

Collaborative Applications

    * Email
    * Instant Messaging (VoIP)
    * Shared Calendar

Management Applications

A broader solution of a Web Office could include:

    * Data management
    * Project management
    * CRM
    * ERP
    * Accounting

Systems with this ample set of functions could be called EIS systems, instead of a Web Office.

Feature requests / Re: Word processor or wiki exporting?

Just found this article very related to the subject. It's a good read, I promise.

Components / Single Sign On

Single Sign On is usually the first component that comes to mind.

What are your ideas on implementing it?

Architecture / OpenSAM
« on: May 27, 2007, 09:00:09 pm »
From the OpenSAM.org website:

Quote
OpenSAM (Open Simple Ajax Mashups) is a set of recommendations and techniques for integrating SaaS applications into incredibly powerful and flexible solutions.

OpenSAM is run by a consortium of leading Web 2.0 application vendors and integrators.

OpenSAM is open to everyone. OpenSAM is the only initiative designed to connect all platforms, suites, and applications, rather than a chosen few.

Their goals sound quite in line with what OpenGoo is trying to do. In fact, there already is a commercial alternative that looks a lot like what OpenGoo: ShareOffice www.sharemethods.com/products/shareoffice.html
But it just isn't Open Source  :(

What do you think?

Feature requests / Open Source Word Processors
« on: May 27, 2007, 08:45:57 pm »
This are the open source (kind of) Word Processors we have found so far, worthy of evaluation. It seems like an area with little community attention

Are we missing anything?

Feature requests / Word processor or wiki exporting?
« on: May 27, 2007, 07:37:30 pm »
A Word processor is one of the first and obvious features of a Web Office. Ignacio and Marcos have been working on a "state of the art" analysis of the subject, since there is no obvious Open Source project standing out.

One idea that came out of the sessions at www.fing.edu.uy was to use a Wiki as a Word Processor, and add some sort of plug-in to enable ODF exporting. What are your thoughts on that idea?
