How To's / Re: Community Differences and Limitations
« on: December 15, 2011, 02:14:18 am »
Hi,

We've been using Feng 1.7.5 Community a short while now and have more features than you ... :P

Are you comparing the new Feng 2.0 to 1.7.5?

The Feng team have begun to clarify what will be changing in FO2.0 (plugins & features included or not), but for your reference, attached is a screenshot from our FO 1.7.5 community install.

Cheers,

I think the idea and "wording" of "sponsoring" may be misleading.

From my perspective, it isn't so much that you are "buying" the feature as much as paying to hire someone to code it. In the sense of Open source, if you want (and are able) to develop/code a feature and add it back to the community, how is the cost for your time different from the cost of the time for the FO team to hire someone outside to do it? The FO development team seems relatively small to me, so for some options hiring outside coders might be the only option.

I think the FO team is pretty busy with v 2, but as the entire project is FOSS, you can code what you need, post it for the communities benefit, and feel good about your contribution.

On the other hand, if you don't have the coding ability, but have the $$ and absolutely NEED a feature now, how is "sponsoring" different from you hiring (and paying) a local php wizard to develop your solution and then giving it back to the community in true Open Source fashion?

thomasthegreek - Where can we all find and download the FOSS software that you have developed and provide for free?

Ideas / Re: Change staff?

Here, here!!! Nice response moorezilla.

Your posting could not have been more on the point. FO is a great piece of work - and if anyone has ever looked INTO the code, you'll see the complexities of it.

I read these comments from people complaining about FO. "It's this, it's that, this is no good, Why do you charge for services, isn't this free-open-source, etc., etc."

The FO guys are doing a good job and are working on 2.0 to address many issues, expandability, scalability, inter-operability, plugin compatibility, etc., but it's a huge undertaking.

I wonder when onkeltem (or others) last released a complex piece of software like this?? Or when will they develop one and give it away for free???

Lots of questions get asked in the forum and many don't get fully answered. Time and time again, the dev's agree they'd like to be here more often, but I prefer if they work on FO 2 instead of the forum...  ;)

Community means community. If you have a talent, tip or tweak, lend a hand and help out, don't just b!tch and complain!

Feng Office 2 / Re: Should we use 2.0?
« on: November 12, 2011, 10:24:48 pm »
Don't do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is a major bug in version 2 that renders it near useless.

Ohh... so that's what Beta means...

I thought it meant "'This one is beta then the other one...."  8)

Development / Re: Creating a new Hook Plugin

Anyway, soon when Feng 2 is out, plugins will be easy to develop.

Oh, oh, oh Francisco... your just teasing us with these comments.... Now we're all sitting on pins & needles! ;)

Feature requests / Re: move / re-assign cooments

Yeah... manual changes in database tables :(

Thanks SIliconMind, not what I hoped for, but an idea nonetheless... We'll see what FO2 changes and then work up some independent php/mySQL system.

This is an old one, but still on the money.

I also think nesting comments would be useful and not too hard to implement.

We know the FO team is busy, busy, busy with FO2 release, but has anyone else played with or worked out a solution for this??

At first reading this I though "Who would need to do that??", but...
after running FO for a couple weeks, I can see the need...

So far it's:
Find wrong comment
Copy wrong comment to clipboard
Login as user who posted original comment
Add correct comment where it belongs
(but sometimes they get out of chronological order)
Carry on with 3,000 other things to do that day  :)

Any word on this? Or maybe some slick coder has figured out a easy-as-pie system to do this??

Hey krashnik,

I love the direction you were going with this mod. Did you ever get further to do this for Notes, Tasks, etc?

I can grasp the concepts but you obviously have a better understanding (at least now you do...) of the internal workings.

This topic may be a little old... but that means you've been able to do some great work with it...  ;)

How To's / Automatically update Dashboard contents
« on: November 02, 2011, 01:09:38 am »
Hey all,

Is there a way (or has someone hacked it) to get the dashboard to update at regular intervals?

If it's possible, I'd like FO to poll the server every XX minutes and update the contents of the new emails, notes, etc., automatically.

I see the ajax (?) "Loading" pop-up in the upper margin every so often, I thought this is what it was doing???

Any thoughts??
Cheers,
Tim

oniskelw,

If you can, help the community and share your discovery/solution.

By everyone doing this, we can help to build a great, and very helpful, community. Let's channel the Feng.....

To do this for FO 1.7.5 - I would think it's not so obvious (at least not for me it isn't)

I'm holding off on major tweakings until the FO folks push FO2 out of beta. it sounds like it *should* be a little easier in FO2 than 1.7.5

dabrowski,

I seem to remember something similar happening (vaguely). It seems basic, but check the posting:
forums.fengoffice.com/index.php?topic=4760.0

Otherwise, post a screenshot (blanking out the important, juicy details) of both the Mail configuration (from Administration >> Configuration >> Mailing) and the mail settings for the user.
