Feng Office 2 / So....really....what's happenning to Feng Office?
« on: November 19, 2012, 04:46:23 pm »
Hi guys,

Don't get me wrong - Feng is a great product. However in the last years, it seems that Feng is going nowhere.
Feng developers do not show up on the forum. Even Conrado and franspoce86 don't show up anymore.

People are trying to upgrade to the latest version 2.2.1 and are frustrated by the migration. Other comunity members are asking about plug-in development and no one every replies how to create a plug-in.

What are the real benefits from upgrading to 2.2.1? What are the real features?

The only real thing I see is the Calendar sync. ...yes I know: now we have 'Dimensions' and Plug-in system! But who cares about it, since Feng developers don't explain how to create a plug-in?

What has happened to the long-promised Mobile version?

So seriously, is there a change in plans? Is Feng still alive project or just a properietary software with bad management?

...I won't bother to write this comment, if it wasn't the potential I see in the project. I believe that community can help the core team to create an even greater product, however we need support.

Conrado - hire a community manager, please!

Feng Office 2 / Just Updated to 2.2.1 - Multiple Errors
« on: November 11, 2012, 01:44:03 pm »
So I finally decided to upgrade from 1.7.5 to 2.2.1 and I faced multiple errors:

1.) Permissions are not working: I can see all emails and notes from personal workspaces of other users. They can also see my emails

2.) Emai is not working as expected

3.) Errors:

Feng Office 2 / Object subtypes
« on: March 22, 2012, 04:13:36 pm »
If I'm not wrong object subtypes are missing in Feng 2.0...
Are they going to be back or they are deprecated in the new design?

Ideas / New UI Experience
« on: March 21, 2012, 05:29:57 pm »
First I would like to congratulate the Feng team about Feng 2 - looks great!

If you allow me, I would share a bit of criticism about the interface:
To be honest, the new interface in Feng 2.0 is not better than the UI of 1.7.5, actually I find it worst in terms of graphics and usability

Don't get me wrong - I love feng, but I really would love to see such improvements in it.

While I applaud the new things in Feng 2, I believe that users will benefit from other things such as:
- New improved UI
- More Social functions: conversations, notifications
- Rich text support for Notes and a wiki style editing where you can edit only parts of the note
- Folders for documents
- Mobile support: native apps for iPhone, iPad
- Cloud sync

Hope that the link above can bring some inspiration to the Feng team!

Thanks and keep up the good work!

Development / GTD implementation for Feng - Use Case
« on: March 02, 2012, 05:04:36 am »
I've created a custom GTD implementation for my Needs...can't be used as plugin(maybe with Feng 2.) it is specific to my installation.

Here is how it looks like:(I'm not allowed to post links so replace the 'hxxp' with 'http'in the links bellow

Active Projects screen:
hxxp://manvox.com/feng-gtd/gtd-projects.jpg

Today screen:

The implementation follows closely the popular Things app for Mac and iPhone

It's been over 50 days in 2012 and there are no any news about FengOffice 2.0

C'mon guys...What's happening: Feng 2.0, Feng Mobile?

Please, Conrado shed some light on the Feng progress!

Feature requests / Starred Tasks
« on: August 20, 2011, 02:42:34 pm »
I want to be able to mark a task as 'Starred' a.k.a. 'Flagged' and 'Favourite'
That gives additional control over task filtering.

For ex. I want to focus on a given set of tasks, so I click on the star just before the Task Name to make it 'Starred', I do the same thing for a few other important tasks.
I select a new Task Filter/Status: 'Starred tasks' and voila

This is a common feature in multiple task managers: Things, omniFocus, Toodledo to name a few...

Feature requests / Task Perspectives
« on: August 07, 2011, 06:47:50 am »
Perspective - a way to save my current task filters, my current tag and workspace,  so that I can easely browse my different task lists.

Why do I need that?
Because I usually want to see different lists of tasks(which means different task filter and tags used). for ex:
- All my Next action at Work(tag:@Work, Workspace: Company; Object Subtype:Next)
- All my recently completed Tasks(tag: None, Status: Completed, ...)
- All my urgent Tasks at Home(tag:@Home, Priority: Urgent)

instead of changing filters, tags and workspaces every time...what I want is fengoffice to remember my current filters, save them for me as a Perspective, so that I can easely browse through my common task lists)

This way I can save my 3 tasks lists(above) as perspectives and by single click I can have my lists....isn't that cool ? :)

Fengoffice already persists UI state so I think that this can be implemented without much of a trouble.

Best

Feature requests / LIKE Button for comments
« on: June 28, 2011, 09:18:26 am »
project management is at a greater degree driven by discussion and social communication.
Currently we are using NOTES to discuss things. We do comment frequently.

It would be great to be able to LIKE comments(and probably objects in general). This is something that everyone got used to because of the social networks.
By clicking LIKE one can show that a comment was seen and appreciated(instead of posting a new comment that is going to flood the discussion)

P.S. I noticed that more services adopt the LIKE button (Few months ago ning.com added LIKE button to their networks)

10
It would be great to have a facebook profile page by default on the Contact page

Feature requests / Adding a Contact to multiple companies

Some of my contacts are part of multiple companies.

It would be cool to have them listed as part of different companies

Feature requests / Auto-expanded Subtasks lists
« on: April 22, 2011, 06:07:05 am »
Hi guys,

Feng is a great product and I'm currently trying to use it according to the GTD methodology. Having the list of subtasks auto-expanded would be a _great_ time-saver and productivity booster and it would be great to have that feature in feng!
I've read the forum topics and I saw the same feature request 2-3 years ago. It is clear that it's not an easy fix, but  please tell us when do you plan to fix this?

Let me explain why I need this:
While implementing the GTD workflow, I'm relying heavily on task lists. I use my calendar _only_ for time-critical tasks and all of the other "open loops" go in the task module with no due date.(that's why I tend to not use date-specific milestones for regular "do a.s.a.p" tasks)

I added several tags that define task status: !next, !waiting, !someday

I often have a task(project in terms of GTD) that requires multiple actions in order to be completed. If the project is big I would create a workspace for it, but if there are only 4-5 tasks to be grouped together there's no point in creating a separate workspace.

I'm using subtasks but having the lists of subtasks collapsed all the time is really making the whole task-management process hard and time-consuming.

Currently I'm trying to use some kind of a name convention so that I can group similar tasks together, but that's just a workaround and it is not very handy. Having the list of sub-tasks expanded all the time would be great!

So once again: Do you plan to implement that feature in the next releases(please be honest  :D ). If not - would you suggest for me using the 'order by name' trick for now?

Best and keep up the good work!

How To's / Task Filters Questions
« on: February 07, 2011, 06:18:49 am »
Hi,

1. I wanted to ask what is the 'Active' Task Filter good for...when I use it, it behaves the same way as the 'Pending' filter....

2. Isn't it strange to get the tasks with no assigned due date when I'm using the 'Overdue' filter .....I would expect to see only overdue tasks, but not tasks which have no assigned due date?

Installation problems / 1.7.3.1. Upgrade Problems
« on: February 06, 2011, 06:47:36 am »
Hi,

I have fengoffice 1.7 installed and I'm trying to upgrade to the latest version.

I've downloaded 1.7.3.1 and extracted the contents of the file in the root of my  fengoffice installation while preserving my existing config files.

I go to public/upgrade and click on 'Upgrade' but I get the following error:

Config file found and loaded.
File '/config/config.php' exists and is writable
Folder '/config' exists and is writable
Folder '/cache' exists and is writable
Folder '/tmp' exists and is writable
Folder '/upload' exists and is writable
Extension 'mysql' is loaded
Extension 'gd' is loaded
Extension 'simplexml' is loaded
Upgrade script has connected to the database.
Test query has been executed. Its safe to proceed with database migration.
Failed to execute DB schema transformations. MySQL said: Duplicate column name 'visible'
Error upgrading to version 1.7.3.1

I'm upgrading from 1.6.2 to 1.7.3.1
There is no '1.7' option in the Upgrade From select list!?...the last available version in the 'Upgrade From' list is 1.6.2 and it is pre-selected

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Installation problems / Problems upgrading to 1.7.2
« on: October 19, 2010, 05:14:24 am »
Hi there,

I have a 1.7. feng installation.
I want to upgrade to 1.7.2

When I try to run the Automatic upgrade process the browser redirects me to /fengoffice/index.php?c=administration&a=auto_upgrade&version=1.7.2 and there's a blank page -> nothing happens(I've tried several times)

so I decided to go with the manual upgrade. I've downloaded the zip file.
It was not clear to me, whether to overwrite the existing files with the contents of the zip or to unzip the new version under my /fengoffice installation i.e. fengoffice/fengoffice
...so I've tried both of the options

1. If I unzip 1.7.2 under /fengoffice/fengoffice and go to public/upgrate -> nothing seems to happen -> there's no 1.7.2 option in the dropdown menu, so I can't upgrade

2. If I overwrite the files of my current installation with the files of 1.7.2 and go to /public/upgrade I can see the 1.7.2 version in the dropdown but the 1.7 options is missing. ...no luck again

Am I missing something?

Best
