I herewith solemnly replace the ANNOYING BUG: Prefix in the subject line by SOLVED.

Thank you so much, Ignacio!

Hey ignacio,

good to know! Do you plan to include this in the next release or do you want me to write it down in the wiki somewhere?

Older versions / BUG: Importing / Exporting Contacts / Companies
« on: August 29, 2009, 08:38:15 pm »
Dear Gooroos,
I'm afraid that not so many people have ever needed the import / Export function, right? Because it has a few serious issues.

1) export creates a csv file but doesn't enclose the text in Quotes. So the moment i have a comma in a record, all goes wrong.

2) Contacts are not related to companies, so after an export you are left with one list of companies and one list of contacts.

3) when uploading the same problem: there is no way of defining what company a contact belongs to.

4) upon importing a contact, opengoo apparently decides if a record exists and gets updated based on the email address. Not a bad idea. But it does so as well if the imported contact has no email address. Bad Idea! This means that if you import multiple contacts without an email address, only the last one is kept.

Here's a suggestion:
* when exporting, do add all company records to each contact. Even if this creates redundancies, it's the only usable format whereever you want to import it later on.
* Include the primary key number so I can re-import that dump later on without any hassles or ambiguities
* have an import function that will allow me to upload both company data and personal information in one go.

I'd like to import all of our old addresses. But that's about a few thousand if them.

Well… all the second best web office have one, period.

Older versions / SOLVED: No way to modify a table in a document

Please tell me that I just overlooked something.
Is there really no function to add columns or rows to a table in a document?

i mean, come on.

Now, I always need to drop into HTML view to do that. But hey, i'd rather copy & paste it into openOffice and Back, i'm afraid...!

Somebody forgot a button somewhere? Where's the properties panel when I need one?

Ideas / Re: Another request for a Gantt Chart
« on: August 29, 2009, 04:58:03 am »
The Feng office Guys are currently considering a timeline extension and we've begun to speak about funding it. Most likely this could be done with shared sponsoring by multiple users, and we'd really be interested in that.

However my general impression is that it would be very hard to get all of the complexity (dependencies? baselines?), user interface features (Drag&drop multiple tasks in time?), and speed that you have with MS Project or GanttProject.

On the other hand, being integrated in a full-featured task manager / groupware would of course be a huge plus.

So I guess the challenge here is finding out what features you'd expect from a gantt tool.

I'd be happy already if I had a possibility of looking at several worspaces' calendars on a timeline, one on top of the next, as with the simile widgets (mentioned elsewhere on this forum). This would already allow me to check ressources' actual availability, compare project progresses, and maintain even loads on ressources. I don't ever use dependencies in the scope of jobs that I'm on. So my preference would be just a simple timeline view for now.

Feature requests / Re: SyncML
« on: August 27, 2009, 05:15:55 am »
koko,

am i right assuming that you are using funambol to sync several mobile devices or apps that have existing funambol clients?
You are not syncing data inside openGoo with funambol, are you?

because my impression was that in this case one would at least need a specially scripted application server to match the different record formats of OGOO and Funambol.

Otherwise, let's hear of your experiences!

DewBob and Pet,

You are both right: We need more info. I've redirected my request to Marcos at fengoffice a few minutes ago, and I hope they'll make suggestions.

About the scope of what's needed, I'll try to clarify my needs:

* What to sync: contacts, events, and (ideally) tasks. I don't need email sync as the OpenGoo email client isn't usable for me and we stick with squirrelmail, which we already have. I also don't need document sync as I'm unaware of any proper solution for that.

* Which whom to sync: If you support SyncML then I believe you'll already be compatible with a bunch of sync partners  (via third-party extensions) like Thunderbird, Outlook, Apple iCal, iPhone, Google Calendar, Windows Mobile, other phones... From what I've seen I believe SyncML is the way to go, with the apparently best-supported open source system being funambol. There is a commercial SyncML solution from Synthesis.ch which has been praised for its stablility on some other forum.

* How to sync: I'm not a firm believer in Push-sync, I just don't believe it will work under all circumstances. So I'd be happy to have sync on request and that's all I need. for now.

certainly there will be many problems arising out of the openGoo extra fields like the workspace, access rights, subscriptions, etc. - I think I could live with many little restrictions there (e.g. don't sync subscribers, comments, …) if it helps to keep the development simple.

Feature requests / Re: Contacts Module - comments for companies

... which brings me back to the tool to replace all forums: The Comment Tracker, which could be its own application. Basically an overview report of all active threads of comments. This would mean that you could start a thread of comments on any item, a task, document, contact, whatever, and on the "comments app page" you'd see all comments grouped into threads, with the ability to reply immediately. This could also be a module for the overview page.

please!?

Ideas / Re: Another request for a Gantt Chart
« on: August 12, 2009, 06:00:11 pm »
WIZaxx, meet PMaxx, who had the idea before.

But
* how would you make tasks depend on each other?
* with the given tools, if you had a bunch of tasks e.g. grouped by a parent task, how would you move them around? Isn't GANNT-Charting all about being able to move things until they fit?

While I am certain simile would be a super great addition to the calendar, I'd say it probably wouldnt help much to create a critical path scenario - there's so much drag&drop functionality still missing, it might be painful. So I believe that even if you manage to draw a gantt chart with simile, you'd have a very very high investment in programming left to get the editor right.

And here's another suggestion:

GANTTPROJECT is a rather-mature GANTT editor. One beauty of it is that it can save to WebDAV.
So you could in theory
* launch ganttproject from the web or as a standalone application
* Open A WHOLE WORKSPACE from a distinct URL with password
(Needed: a script that packages all events, tasks, milestones into a ganttproject file - a Ganttproject fileserver, I guess it could be done)
* edit events, tasks, milestones in ganttproject
* save them back to opengoo
* opengoo would then update its calendars, tasks, and milestones

crazy, eh? Lots of Pitfalls, like how-to-handle-updates, what-to-do with nonexisting fields during the transfer, etc.
But I kind of love the idea, anyway.

Perhaps some young and aspiring CS student is looking for a diploma thesis topic...

Ideas / Re: Mindmap / FreeMind
« on: August 12, 2009, 05:39:11 pm »
Karl,

I have also begun to favor XMind over Freemind because, well ... it simply looks better. And XM does a few things that FM hasn't been able to yet, like embed images, show map as outline, etc.
And the inline viewer is quite handier.

But lets talk about how you'd like to integrate it!

* As it is now, XMind'd sharing features rely on their own (commercial) server, right? So I am not able to host a shared Map on my own server. And all of the maps I share with the free version are by definition public. Only the commercial version allows me closed-group sharing. All of this on their server.

* their model is much like youtube: You get a string for each shared map and with that chunk of HTML you can embed a map with the viewer into your own HTML pages. However, the viewer and the map stay on their server.

* the online viewer currently can only show a file, not edit it. (apparently)

Then allow me the question, how would you integrate that into openGoo?

Until there is a free XMind viewer (like there is for Freemind) that can take maps from any other server, i don't think you can do much more than to store the URL to a viewer in your LINKS application. (you can just extract the URL from the "embed" string that they give you. it looks like this: http://share.xmind.net/_embed/karstenw/fbf-lpzuwue3gh-3/

But maybe It exists and I just havent seen it yet?

Feature requests / Re: Archive workspace
« on: August 12, 2009, 05:16:02 pm »
yep, archived projects should
* no longer appear in the milestones  dropboxes
* be no longer editable (optionally)?
* no longer export to iCal
* their objects should not appear in their parent workspaces (e.g. don't show their events in my full-calendar anymore)

phew. Is this another "to-sponsor" request already?
