Announcements / Re: Feng Office 2.0 BETA 3 has been released!
« on: November 29, 2011, 09:06:37 am »
Hi and congratulations for this great release.

Two questions:

- Why did not you integrate the PDF view which was described for Fengoffice 1.7.5 ? It would be to useful not to have to download PDF files to look at them !

- When can we expect to see GelSheet integrated in FengOffice 2 ? It was supposed to be a plugin if I remember well...

In all cases, FengOffice is better and better !!!

How To's / Re: Why is a spreadsheet needed?
« on: February 17, 2010, 05:21:35 am »
And concerning the spreadsheet:

There is a HUGE quantity of information to be shared between users implicated in a project which are more easily stored in a table that a text document.

So if you want to be able to share data between people working in the same project, you need to be able to share information and so you NEED a spreadsheet.

That simple...

First a historical point of view:

Feng Office (opengoo) was born from a mix between ExtJS and ActiveCollab (which at the time was free and open source).

And if you ask why Feng Office should NOT only focus on task/project management, the answer is quite simple: THERE ARE WAY BETTER SOFTWARES TO DO THAT. One of them being... Active Collab (from opengoo comes from).

So to my opinion, Feng Office strenghts was too also integrate a office suite (word, excel and powerpoint equivalents).

Without that, I am sorry to say that Feng Office is just one more task management (like remeber the milk, activecollab, etc...) and will not be able to make a difference...

Feature requests / Re: Is Feng Office going anywhere?
« on: February 16, 2010, 03:16:01 pm »
I add my voice to the people asking for a roadmap.

Moreover, I am actually shocked by the current Feng Office team. Conrado said they have ot pay for a "huge staff". But looking at the team members, I can count many commercial representative and business people but actually very few developers.

It seems to me that you took the wrong direction hiring so many people who are just trying to "sell" the product and so few trying to develop it.

I sent several emails to Feng Office in the last days and I only got answers from commercials asking for money (sponsoring). I could not reach any technical person (not even talking about a developer...).

So, please... Fire some of these unuseful sellers and hire more real technical persons and MORE IMPORTANTLY more developers !

You may think that Feng Office is a good-enough product to start selling it... It is actually wrong. It is far from most other free (eyeOS) and commercial (Zoho and Thinkfree) web office. It is uncomplete as an office suite (not even a spreadsheet app...), uncomplete as a customizable platform (not even two templates... just the basic one from ExtJS, not even a simple "How to" for developers...), uncomplete as a community (no roadmap, no SVN, no contribution of the community).

And the recent mix up between opengoo and feng office just destroyed all the work done by the community to promote the product.

Now here we are:
- No roadmap
- No development plan
- No active development of new features (as it seems from the answers of commercial representatives)
- A lost contact with the community (no way to be in touch with developers... just commercial people)
- A lost image (Come on ! What was wrong with OpenGoo ?)
- A lost strategy (Do you really expect to find "sponsors" for basic features already available in zoho suite, eyeOS, thinkfree...?)

And at the end... a lost faith.

Conrado, YOU initiated this project but it seems you lost control. Do not let the seller deciding the future of OpenGoo (sorry I prefer it) and come back to the basis... development !

Ideas / Re: Ability to Add Modules
« on: February 16, 2010, 03:01:47 pm »
We'll have the ability to manage Modules on a not-distant future. ;)

And will the community have the ability to know what is the feng office roadmap ???

Ideas / Re: Quick way to add Weblinks
« on: February 16, 2010, 03:00:00 pm »
I would love both the feature and such a plug-in!

LOL

Conrado would love it but... he did not say that anyone in the Feng Office team will ever develop it. And if you ask them, they will answer:

"We tried to find sponsors for this feature. But as we did not find one, we did not develop the feature".

Ridiculous !

Feature requests / Re: Gantt charts, 2 years of requests ignored
« on: February 16, 2010, 02:58:02 pm »
Ha! I liked the option 'A "what" chart?'.

Requests have not been ignored. There has been an attempt to raise funds to sponsor this feature but, as surprising as it may seem to some, it hasn't drawn much interest yet.

Dear Conrado,

Could you please explain us what are:
- The development model of Feng Office ?
- The economical model of Feng Office ?

From my experience asking for a spreadsheet app and from your answer, it seems to me that:
- There is NO MORE active development for Feng Office
- ONLY "sponsored" features will be developed

It just does not make sense at all. This project started great but since you decided to become a "start up" and to try to make money on it, it just collapsed.

The only people answering emails are "commercial representatives". The only answer is "pay first and we will see". And there is no more official roadmap or development plans.

My humble opinion: KICK OFF all the commercial experts you hired and hire new developers. This project is going nowhere at the moment.

To me, it is a dead end and as long as I do not see a real development of it, I will not promote it anymore.

General Discussion / Re: Why Feng Office is going nowhere ?
« on: February 12, 2010, 12:22:26 pm »
Dear Nitin,

First, I refuse to pay for a project that I actively supported and promoted since months.

Second, if you consider that 1000 bucks is not a big deal, Happy You ! But for that price, I can buy several licenses of Microsoft Office which includes a spreadsheet app.

Open Source projects can not hope to be developed with a "sponsoring" system. If I pay for a feature, I want to be free to sell it to have my money back. So I will not "offer" it to the community. It is a loss for the community.

Open Source project can only make money on:
- Hosting solutions
- and custom development: but for features highly specific and not designed to be distributed.

Sorry to say that for me, a spreadsheet app is NOT a highly specific feature and should simply be part of any serious web office.

Concerning the alternatives, just have a look at eyeOS: It has a COMPLETE web office.

Regards.

General Discussion / Re: My OpenGoo review
« on: February 11, 2010, 07:39:28 pm »
It is easy because it is incomplete...

Give us a real text document, spreadsheet and presentation app and it may become more complicated. But also more useful.

At the moment it is... just incomplete.

General Discussion / Re: Version 1.6 Review
« on: February 11, 2010, 07:37:39 pm »
Version 1.6 still misses a REAL spreadsheet apps !

It was one of your promise Conrado... But after I got an email from Sergio asking me to pay 1000 or 2000$ to "sponsor" its development, I have got the feeling none is coding anymore in this project. Not for free at least...

Dead project, at least in its spirit. It becomes a classical commercial product. And in this category, there aare concurrent Feng Office can not compete with...

What is a "web office" without even a spreadsheet ? ... A joke.

General Discussion / On the future of Feng Office
« on: February 11, 2010, 07:32:43 pm »
I write to really express my anger and disappointment.

I have been following, promoting and supporting OpenGoo since its early beginning when it forked from ActiveCollab (and took initially most of its code).

I was surprised to see this project becoming a company and had the feeling that it completely lost its link with the community.
I also got the feeling that people in the Feng Office team were more concerned by making money than developing a piece of software.

Some days ago, I asked about the GelSheet status and had to send 3 emails to get an answer. And the answer was... "If you want to see a spreadsheet apps in Feng Office, you have to sponsor it. What about 1000$ or 2000$ ?".

Honestly, I thought it was a (bad) joke !

Come on guies ! You first took lots of code from the FREE and open source Active Collab project (version 1.0) then you asked the OpenGoo community to support you and submit some code.
And now that you just changed the name of the project as "Feng Office", there is no more community-based development ? No more development without sponsoring ? Everything is just about money ?

First, it is a shame, as the spreadsheet application has been a promised since version 1.4 and lots of work has been done by... the community (!) and not the dev team.
Second, it is a shame, as Feng Office (or opengoo) is INCOMPLETE without a spreadsheet app and you can not seriously imagine that it will be adopted WITHOUT a spreadsheet apps.
Third, your commercial model makes no sense. I was proposing to have 2500 users with a commercial hosting from you (with the condition to know if and when will we have a spreadsheet app) and you just do not care about this hosting request but ask us to pay for a development already FREELY initiated by the community. ???!!!

At this point, it seems obvious to me that:
- Commercial people are controlling Feng Office
- They completely lost the link with the OpenGoo community
- There is no more active development for this project (except if someone pays a few thousand bucks).

I go back to real and active open source project like eyeOS !

Getting Started / Re: GelSheet - Question
« on: August 06, 2009, 12:19:04 pm »
Thanks for the info on how to reactivate GelSheet.

Now the obvious question...

When can we expect a working stable version ?

I mean it is an obvious lack of OpenGoo and people on the forum have been asking for it for months... and you guies are surprisingly silent.

Do not you have a roadmap with some deadlines ?

« on: August 06, 2009, 09:42:34 am »
Such a mess...

So...

I upgraded from 1.5.0 to 1.5.1 and I still have Gelsheet...

BUT on another install, I upgraded from 1.4.1 to 1.5.1 and Gelsheet did not show up...

This Gelsheet integration really does not make sense.

Even if it works, such a non logical integration could be considered as a bug (at least for the fact that it does not appear when you upgrade from 1.4.1)

It is the first time I have a real problem with Opengoo but honestly, it is a mess.

NO NO NO !!!

I just updated to 1.5.1 and GelSheet is not integrated anymore !

I lost all the data we created using 1.5.0.

Come on guies, what is going on ????
