Feature requests / Generalization of subtypes
« on: January 02, 2012, 06:50:37 am »
Hi,

First great thanks for the job already done since OpenGoo.

Then would next FO releases implement a generalization of subtypes as used in tasks ? e.g. it would permit us to create notes subtypes in aim to have our specific objects with their specific properties both in viewing and editing mode !

Today we manage this with note object custom properties (via the admin menu "custom properties") with the key custom property being a "Type" property. It works since we can manage reports based on the Type property to select only the desired specific object.
Anyway, it's really a pain to add a new specific object since the note object is added more and more custom properties as the number of specific objects increases.
It's really a pain when editing property values, less when viewing properties since only properties with a value appears.

IMHO the generalization of subtypes could permit to achieve the same need, but with a more clean management (creation, editing, viewing, deleting).

What's your opinions and needs ?

Announcements / Re: Feng Office Mobile!
« on: August 22, 2011, 04:54:09 pm »
Hi,

that would really be a must to have fengoffice on smartphone with a good user experience in mind !

aiming this, I think the KISS (keep It Simple Stupid) would go as the credo here : so, as @tomopix said here before, why not begin with no native version at all, but just with a really good ergonomic web one.
Speaking about ergonomy, the proposition written here before by @kaje is very interesting : switching workspaces by vertical glide, and switching apps (mail, tasks, docs, ... ) via lateral glide, seems to be a good approach. I think this would be really feasible in the same ways AJaX is used in the desktop flavor (wouldn't be ignacio, conrado ?).

Speaking about features now, here is what I think as a minimum :

- events (calendar), contacts, tasks, notes, mail, docs, the first four being absolutely the bare minimum for a good integrated PIM.

- all these being advertised in a (default first view/screen) "today" overview.

Just enabling this would recall the forgotten good integrated PIM of the "palmpilot" (I never saw such a good PIM on pockets since ! IPhone ? Android ? Others ? None of them was able to accomplish the simple but efficient and polish way palm done it IMHO !)

After this first goal is reached, it would be necessary to focus on syncing : import/export to popular (and standard !) format like vCard, vCalendar, at the first time (since it is already quite implemented). And then, real syncing (two-way syncing at best) using popular and standard ways again (i.e. SyncML).

Hey, guys, this night I had a dream : this was tomorrow ... I was getting on the net, on the fengoffice site ... and ... WOW ! INCREDIBLE : OpenGoo was back again as a reminiscence in the form of an application (and the associated widget) for iPhone, Android, BlackBerry, Maemo, Symbian, Bada, WinMobile ! This was yet a couple of days the web version optimised for smartphones was available for download (and I needed it), and these natives ones were the final point I wished secretly ...
What a lovely dream, isn't it ? Yes the ultimate dream is peace and abondance everywere for everyone ... but that's not all bad for a start, no ?  ;)

Ideas / Re: Note subtypes, so that you track expenses, etc
« on: March 09, 2011, 05:59:36 am »
@kylethaynes : yes I totally agree with you : notes subtypes could be a solution I didn't thought of ; I thought another idea for the same needs posted in the "Feature request (see this topic on the same forum : http://forums.fengoffice.com/index.php?topic=8481.0).

@franponce87 : it would be a temporary solution, but we really need something more clean and well managed. Managing this by the way of tags will clutter the database since all "virtual types tagged notes" (sorry I didn't find more appropriate naming) must share the same custom properties.
Imagine : you need to manage "expense" assets. Using the notes objects type, you create custom properties "value", "devise", "date" and probably "items", and you tag all the new notes for expense management with the "expense" tag.
Then you want to manage "computers" assets too. So you then add custom properties for note objects type, ie list-property "desktop, tower, portable", value properties "CPU type", "#CPU",  "RAM amount", "Disks" and so on, and you tag every new notes for computer management with the "computer" tag. That works great !
But, in fact, your notes used for expense management is cluttered with unused custom properties only used by notes for computer management and vice et versa ! So you end up filling the database with things that do not have to exist at all.
I don't know how subtypes are implemented (ie for tasks objects) but this would be a more convenient way to fill our needs.

As I told kylethaynes, I had another idea for the same needs I exposed in the "feature requests" topic (see URL I gave). Today I use notes with custom properties for managing all my different assets, with a dedicated custom property "Type" to filter assets type in reports, but it is a temporary solution only.
I never thought of using subtypes (as it currently exists in tasks), and this would be a good idea. But thinking of the possibility of creating custom types of objects that can appear as tabs (as it is for notes, tasks, documents), and with the possibility to create new items of these custom objects type by clicking on the global "new" button or on the related object type toolbar "new" button, will probably be cleaner and easier to work with.

Your Opinions ?

Hi,

first congratulations for this high quality product : as I've said before, I tried lot of collab webapp and FO definitely is the most advanced one in the standalone category (wich you can deploy on your own servers)

second my feature request : would it be possible to add a generic object, void for the most part, but custumzable using already available custom properties (those wich we setup via the preference manager, so tese custom properties would be available in reports).

I think these wouldn't be a lot effort to implement as they would just be like a note with custom properties for example. This would offer everybody a change to add support for specialized objects we are used to managed in companies.
For example I use custom properties for notes to manage an "asset management"-like (the goal is to manage these in one place, ie in FO rather than in GLPI.
If the "custom object adding" feature were there, I would create an "Asset" object with custom properties named "type" of type "list of values" setup like this : "computer, switch, router, etc...". We then could use existing object linking feature to associate "Asset" objects together !

For anaother company it could be adding custom objects named "medecine" for medical businesses.

In fact, it just would add FO such a flexibility to stick to the business model of everyone ! Don't you think that would be great ? Just by using existing features ?

How many people would be pleased to have such a possibility ? With the possibility to see "custom objects" defined in a new tab with the "create new" feature, this would be a feature must !!

Thanks by advance reating to this idea.

Ideas / Re: RSS feeds reader
« on: December 04, 2009, 05:23:37 pm »
a2opinion : ok but I don't want to suscribe to a RSS feed about what is new to a workspace, but rather I would have my favorite RSS feeds (ie. securityfocus, some webzines' feeds) been displayed into a widget in my workspace. Is there a way to have that done ?

Ideas / Asset management

What about an asset management tool ? A simple one, with the existing feature of custom properties would be a good base (to manage an IT machines park, finnancial immobilized ressources, furnitures and so on) ...

What about add a feature to stick at the cutting edge by being notified of the new items of a RSS feed ? It could be done as a new dashboard widget and a new OpenGoo tab "News / RSS feeds" next to the web bookmarks one ...

Ideas / whiteboard
« on: November 27, 2009, 06:37:20 pm »
What is always missing in collaborating environment is a tool to make succint drawings (vectorial based rather than bitmap based). It would be so nice to have the possibility to include (or link) such a drawing into Documents, Spreadsheet (GelSheet), or Presentation, or simply have the possibility to draw into a Note !

What do you think of this ?

Ideas / hierarchical milestones, tasks with dependancies, and Gantt chart
« on: November 27, 2009, 06:31:31 pm »
I think it would be nice to have milestones accept child milstones. It would permit project-like organization of tasks with what one calls "phases" (and "sub-phases" as well).

Another idea would be to have tasks with dependancies and a Gantt chart ...

What do think of these suggestions ?

How To's / OpenGoo 1.5.3 with OpenGoo 6.2 beta's spreadsheet
« on: November 27, 2009, 06:20:49 pm »
I'm using OpenGoo 1.5.3 yet, but I wish to integrate v. 1.6.2 beta2's spreadsheet (since 1.5.3 one isn't useable with functions in formulas).
Is there a way to do it ?

I would use v. 1.6.2 beta 2 in place of v. 1.5.3, but I find out that the 1.6.2' ckeditor is less useable than the 1.5.3 one (there is no more color chooser in the table properties, one has to enter the color code by hand ; there is no more anchor button to create an anchor in a document, etc. Is this a regression ?).

So the best solution for me is to use 1.5.3 with the 1.6.2 GelSheet ... Or if someone knows about configuring the 1.6.2 beta2's ckeditor to behaves like the 1.5.3's one, it would be another solution (therefore the 1.6.2 beta2 includes the new "archive" functionnality).

Somebody here for a quick way ?

Thanks by advance.

Getting Started / Re: displaying workspaces label in calendar
« on: November 27, 2009, 05:52:17 pm »
to my knowledge there isn't any way to state what workspace an event or task belongs to in the calendar, HOWEVER, when creating new workspaces (or editing current ones) you can assign a color to a workspace.

Not only does this place a ball the color of your choosing next to the workspace in the workspaces panel; it also colors the text of that workspaces objects to match the color of the ball.

So if I have a workspace with a purple ball, then in my calendar, all events for that workspace will have a purple background.  Also when viewing objects like contacts in "All" view, it states the workspace that the object belongs to and that is also color coded.

ok, I noticed this too, but it would be more convenient to have the name of the workspace before the event label, as it is done in tasks ...

Anyway, thanks a lot for your answers everybody, and thanks much to the OpenGoo team for such a great tool !

Getting Started / displaying workspaces label in calendar
« on: November 12, 2009, 05:56:56 pm »
Is there a mean to display workspaces labels in front of events in the calendar when the "all workspaces" is selected (i.e, there is no workspace scoping) ?
It would be great to have such display to visually discern what workspace an event is tied to.

thanks.
