Feng Office 2 / No "Related To" link when editing users
« on: September 23, 2013, 01:53:48 am »
Greetings;

I'm using FO 2.3.0. When editing the record of a person who is also a system user (they have a login account), there is no "Related To" link to set the Workspaces where that person's information will be visible.

This is not flexible.

Please help.

Feature requests / Re: folders for documents
« on: October 01, 2011, 03:09:37 am »
I'm not a big fan of folders for documents... but if users want them, let em have it.

@ kabelittile:
"Please forgive my ignorance (I am not a programmer), but if sub-tasks are possible, why not sub-documents?"
That is perfect to me.  Custom properties for different types of files, yes!
Documents (imho) should be filtered in 2 dimensions, #1 access privileges (workspaces), and #2 metadata (Custom Properties).

Trying to organize documents with folders drives me crazy.  Example, if there is a set of documents generated at regular time intervals, like weekly reports, one of the custom properties for that document type will be a date field.  Otherwise, I'm 2 or 3 folders deep just getting to the reports, then there are 13 folders after 3 months, and 26 folders after 6 months, and them we start creating quarterly folders...  It drives me crazy! I'd rather enter a couple of keywords and a date. Plus, if I want to look at data from 3 consecutive weeks, It's all right there.

I guess that's the biggest thing. Folders impose a defined structure on how the data is grouped. Like I said, to each his (her) own, If you like folders, I think you should have them. But I want sub-documents/custom properties!

Ideas / Re: Ability to Add Modules
« on: June 26, 2011, 08:51:53 pm »
Adding modules is only powerful if you can link data from that module to data in FO. I can open a bunch of tabs in Firefox and have a bunch of apps running side by side already, but the real power of data is in linking it to other data...
A bunch of isolated records is not nearly as valuable as a bunch of linked records. Witness Facebook.

How To's / Re: Checkout & Download - Why Read Only?

OK, it looks like this is a browser issue, see this Firefox forum:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/90378

I don't like the behavior, but it's not a FO issue.

Ideas / Re: Visual Collaboration, another request for Mind Maps
« on: December 06, 2009, 10:59:25 pm »
Greetings;

Long time no post!  OG is great, of course.  Here is an idea that is very similar to a mindmap, but easier, (javascript based) and very powerful.  It's called the JavaScript InfoVis Toolkit.  Check it out here:  http://thejit.org

Take a look at the HyperTree demo, Tree Animation.
url:   http://thejit.org/Jit/Examples/Hypertree/example1.html

This is not exactly a mind map, but it would be a great way to visualize relationships between OpenGoo objects.  How about having one of thise maps open up when you click on a "Links Map" button....

Totally javascript, open source BSD license, it might be an elegant solution...

Cheers!

Feature requests / Re: Formatting Text in Comments
« on: May 14, 2009, 10:16:45 pm »
Greetings;

I have been thinking about this.  This maybe a good place to post because it also addresses Claudio's use case (sort of).  It 's important to keep the GUI clean and simple.  It would also be great to be able to add a linked object simply, and to access linked objects simply.

For comments, the add comment screen needs a "formatting" option that is similar to the options that are available at the top of the (for instance) edit contact screen.  You click on an option (like timezone) and when it is active, it is bold.  In this case, the option is the additional formatting features.
Also, at the bottom of each object view, there should be row of buttons, "Add Comment" "Add Document" Add Task" Add Calendar Event" etc.  Clicking that button opens the add *** screen and the ne w object is linked to the current object when it is saved.  This is common in CRM apps when you want to add an activity associated with a contact.  I would like to do this when linking an html document (file metadata) to an uploaded file.

Most of the time when I want to link an object, I want to do the link at the point when I create the linked object, not after it has already been created.  I find the concept of linked objects powerful, but the process of creating an object, then creating a 2nd object, then selecting link object, then selecting the 1st object to complete the link is clunky to me...

Lastly, it would be very nice to be able to see those linked objects below the current object.  Sort of like the overview screen shows Upcoming Events, Milestones and Tasks; Pending Tasks; and Documents...  Something like that at the bottom of the object view would be awesome.  Keep the rest the same, actions and properties on the right, but below all of that, list all linked objects.
This isn't exactly what Claudio does, but it keeps all associated info close together, which is, I think, the idea.

I guess the view of linked documents would need to be filtered by workspace (like the overview).  But it would be awesome.

Greetings all;

The issue of being able to format comments has come up before.  I think most users agree it would make OpenGoo more powerful.  Check out this forum here http://forums.opengoo.org/index.php?topic=800.0
This is an idea not a feature, but if this is what you are looking for, let the developers know.  The more people ask for a feature, the better the chance that it will be implemented.

Development / Re: How to integrate opengoo with other site?
« on: May 04, 2009, 02:28:02 pm »
Greetings!

Just a quick note (I know this is not the focus right now),  XRMS (hosted at sourceforge) has a really flexible api.  It facilitates plugins and remote procedure calls.  There are probably 15 or 20 plugins, including one that integrates OWL (a php/mysql document storage app).  Anyone looking for api ideas might want to take a look at that code.  It is a MySQL/PHP app.  Don't let the 2007 (2006?) stable release date fool you.  CVS is production ready.

It's a powerful crm app, but I had issues with the UI, and when the files wouldn't migrate, well, here I am!

I haven't tried 1.4 beta.

I only have the production installation.  I will update to 1.4 stable as soon as it is released.

I'm looking forward to whatever goodies the GooRoos have in store!

Ideas / Re: Another Request For Gantt

Looks nice.  Clean interface.  But no documentation.  I mean, what language is it written in? Java? PHP?  Also, what license is it,  GPL? BSD?

The devil is in the details.  It does look cool, though!

Ideas / Re: Metadata Search Function
« on: April 20, 2009, 04:36:57 pm »
Just one more thing.

The idea here is to be able to attach sets of metadata to objects.  For example, I do building automation/control systems.  I have company records for clients, vendors, and architects  that are into energy efficiency.  So instead of adding a bunch of energy efficiency fields to all companies and contact, I would like to be able to attach a pre-defined set of energy efficiency metadata (custom fields) to whatever company, contactor, or product datasheet that needs it.

It sounds to me like you want to search metadata.  Check out this forum on metadata search:
