Feng Office 3 / Re: Images blocked in Incoming Emails
« on: May 04, 2016, 11:35:28 pm »
Hi Natalia,

What's the best way to send you this information? I've made 3 screenshots that illustrate what I'm seeing - on both the sending and receiving ends of a 'conversation'.

BTW: My Feng Office installation is in a sub-domain - if that matters any. I also checked the TMP folder and not being sure exactly what you meant by Apache having 'write' permissions, I set the permissions to 775 and then 777. Neither of these made any difference to the incoming mail.
Could htaccess settings have any effect on this?

Thanks for your attention to this issue.

Regards,

David

Hi Steve,

Thanks for checking on your installation and reporting your findings. BTW: What release version FO is your installation?

To answer your question about the settings: yes, I have checked all the email settings you mentioned. They are all set individually to "No".

I should also mention that the three FO installations I have are installed on two different servers (hosting providers). Is yours installed locally, by any chance?

Hi Steve,

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

As to your suggestion: I did as you suggested, creating an email in Gmail and pasting the logo into the body of the message. I sent this message to two separate destinations: one a FengOffice client, and another an email client (Outlook) connected to a standalone hosting account (separate domain).

Sure enough, sending it to the FengOffice client stripped the logo away, leaving the alternate text. Sending it to the standalone hosting account worked fine.

I should tell you that I now have three (3) separate FengOffice installations, one of which is the latest release (v3.4.1), and the others the second-to-last version (v3.4.0.17). They all appear to behave the same way where email is concerned.

Based on the above evidence, and the simple fact that email messages sent between FengOffice installations suffer the same fate, I think the FengOffice installations are somehow at fault. Gmail looks clean.

I honestly thought it would have been a simple setting - maybe SPAM/security-related, but not having any SPAM filter in place at the server end, I've ruled that out.

I have no idea what might be causing this - do you?

Regards,
David

Feng Office 3 / Images blocked in Incoming Emails
« on: April 11, 2016, 03:31:12 am »
I have a Feng Office Community version (v3.4.1) installation, and the most frustrating issue right now is that images in incoming emails (most notably a logo in the email signature) are being blocked. Outbound emails are apparently unaffected.

I've tried enabling the related option in Email setup/configuration to no avail. Even with the displayed notice of "blocked images" in the incoming email - clicking on this makes no difference whatsoever.

The simple test performed is as follows:
1. Create test email with logo image in signature.
2. Send to Gmail account. Result: Image seen in signature, no problem.
3. Send email to another Feng Office account. Result: No image displayed in incoming email. 'Alt Text' text seen instead.

What am I missing? Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks,
David

This seems like a ridiculous amount of work to update to the new stable version... :/

No kidding!

We could all do with a bit more information regarding the proposed timeline for the next release, and hopefully this would include a proper migration script.

Dear All,

We have been really busy lately, more than usual actually, so we have not been able to pay much attention here, even though we certainly are looking forward to doing so.

Considering the fact that many of you have had issues when upgrading from 1.X to 2.X, I would like to share with you all a document with step by step guides on how to do it.

In case something is missing there, please let me know, and once I am able to I will update it - otherwise feel free to do so yourself of course -

On the other hand, as some people asked us about this, I want you all to know that we are working very hard and let you know that the development of Feng Office will certainly go on. In fact, the new release will be soon, which will bring along many new fixes and some improvements as well.

Best regards,
Francisco

Hello Francisco,

Can you provide a better idea of the time to next release?   Is this on the order of days or weeks? This would help in planning my system migration.

Thanks,

David

Thought I would contribute something to assist those of us that have wasted a collective hundreds of hours in coming to grips with this migration challenge.

Attached is a Process Map of the steps as currently recommended, as well as the optional steps I took in trying to make sense of it all. I assume a v1.7.5 installation as a starting point, as is the case with probably most of us here.

Below are the two alternative approaches presented:

1. Begin at Start 1:
As I did, in order to eliminate all risk of messing up the main site, you start with a Test Bed v1.7.5 installation created in a separate folder on the same domain as the main installation (also v1.7.5).
For this approach, follow steps 1 through 10 of the attached process map.

2. Begin at Start 2:
If you simply wish to upgrade your current v1.7.5 installation directly, follow Steps 5a through 10a of the process map.

If nothing else, the ability to refer to the process map makes any related discussion a little easier.

Cautionary Notes
Even after getting v2.0.0.8 to the point where I could login and potentially see all my data, there are still some unanswered questions, such as:

a) Why are there still og_ table entries in the database?
b) With the persistent og_ entries, the total number of tables is now more than double that of the original installation!
c) The database table entries for fo_objects and fo_processed_objects still differ by 1.
d) Given the above, how can I be sure of the data that will be presented to the user?

My final comment is that there are obviously too many 'moving parts' in this overall migration process to make it what I would call robust. Without the help of a migration script that includes ALL necessary error checking, etc., it takes only a single, simple mistake and the whole thing fails in a hurry.

I think skyer2000 is on the mark with his comment - the current script certainly needs more work!

I hope this helps at least some of you who have no particular expertise in this subject, but appreciate the value of Feng Office. Please let me know if there are any recommended changes, and I will update the document as required.

Cheers,
David

.....

3- Change the TABLE_PREFIX at the config/config.php from og_ (or whatever) to fo_ and also change the database data.
.....

Thanks for the clarification, but what do you mean by "..and also change the database data"? If an update to FO 2.0 is being done in situ, what data is there that should be changed?

Please explain.

Thanks,
David

Installation problems / Update on Backup Plugin
« on: March 31, 2012, 03:30:48 pm »
As far as I know, the latest (and maybe also the only) version of the Backup Plugin is v1.0. I have been using this on v1.7.5 Feng Office with no problems other than a few glitches during Installation.

The main issue with installation was lack of explicit instructions (I'm no expert in this subject matter), but more interestingly, the use of a database User password 'DB_PASS' that clearly caused a problem.

You may have experienced this yourself. The offending password for me was <%u376M$s*t> without the brackets. The replacement password that worked; i.e., allowed the application to run, was <RB4g62jxYP>, again without the brackets.

So, as a wild guess, maybe a general rule should be if you intend using the backup plugin you should avoid the use of symbols such as "%" in your database password.

Someone familiar with the code could probably explain this, but be warned.

What I would like to know is how best to use the backup file created and saved to the tmp/backup folder.

In other words, what are the recommended steps for using this backup zip file to restore the Feng Office installation?

I will properly document this information in the Wiki so long as I get the input from those of you who know better than I just what to do here. For such a basic and critically important function, this should be much better detailed than is currently the case.

Any suggestions or advice would be much appreciated!

Thank You,
David
