: Procedure for joining the localization efforts
: conrado January 22, 2009, 08:25:28 PM
Localizing OpenGoo UI and documentation is one of the most important tasks the community performs.

It is about time we define a formal procedure for managing translation contributions.

Here is the first draft of the procedure for Localization work.

Obsolete: check here (http://forums.opengoo.org/index.php?topic=1857.0)

How to apply for Locale Admin

- Request the creation of a translation environment for the language you plan to admin.

-OpenGoo team will:

- After you create the first draft, upload files on a zipped package to the forum, for community evaluation.

- Request OpenGoo team validation of the first draft when you feel it is ready for production use.

- OpenGoo team will evaluate the language package to the best of its competency

- If positively evaluated, OpenGoo team will:

- If observations are made, you should work to fix raised issues, and present a new draft.

Languages will be "oficially" supported when it has at least one admin, and one release "validated" by the OpenGoo team.

How to apply for Translation Contributor

- You should indicate the Language(s) for which you wish to contribute.

- OpenGoo team will provide you with instructions on how to access an OpenGoo installation for you to work on the translations.

- Upload modified files and suggestions to the forum, for community and admin evaluation.

- Language admin will evaluate your contributions, and include them using his/her criteria.

- When admin mandates the OpenGoo team, access to the translation environment for the language will be granted.

And this is it. What do you think?

This is how i do it, if i want to show, where the translation for "billing" can be find and add it to the german translation (i work on the server with ssh):

:
grep -rin billing ./en_us/

Result:
:
./en_us/messages.php:20: 'billing category dnx' => 'Requested billing category does not exist in database',
./en_us/messages.php:232: 'success add billing category' => 'Billing category added successfully',
./en_us/messages.php:233: 'success delete billing category' => 'Billing category deleted successfully',
./en_us/messages.php:234: 'success edit billing category' => 'Billing category updated successfully',
...

Then  the same for de_de:
:
grep -rin billing ./de_de/
Which has no results.

So i copy every line at the end of the file (line by line):
:
echo "'success edit billing category' => 'Billing category updated successfully'," >> messages.php

After that, i edit the file(s) and move the added lines to the array and translate the strings...

Yes, it might be easier, to fetch the directorys en_us and de_de and diff them with a gui-tool. But for a quick fix this method can be helpful. :)

I want to translate the site in Hindi. It ranks in top 5 in population size of spoken language. I just want to know how to translate the site. Its language symbol is "hi".

Thanks for the help,
Arvind Prakash Jha.

Salut, ;D

This post relates to the wiki.

I wanted to ask if msauter allows us to keep the screenshots. Wherever possible, we try to put the originals in french, but sometimes it's much time for anything.
We will replace them later.

Bonne nuit

Please ask Martin Sauter (http://forums.opengoo.org/index.php?action=profile;u=160), the wiki administrator. He should know.
