: templates not working?
: ctek August 07, 2009, 11:19:31 AM
maybe im making something wrong. i wanted to make a template for a task. im going to administration/templates --> add new template
there, i can give a name to the template, define some parameters (for what are those??), link objects and save the template
and now ? i thought, i now can go to tasks , new , and use this template. but nothing happens when i select a template...
is there some actual document, how to use templates?

Templates work like this:

1) You create a template
    a) You give it a name
    b) You add objects to it.
    c) Optionally you can define parameters for the template
    d) Optionally you can modify properties of the objects you added to the template (e.g. change a task's name or due date). You can either give fixed values for these properties or values depending on the parameters you defined on c)
    e) Optionally you can assign the template to a workspace. Now it doesn't make much sense to assign a template to a workspace. It just makes it easier to find it when you want to instantiate it. But on a future version (and configurably) you will only be able to instantiate templates assigned to the current workspace.

2) You instantiate the template
    a) Go to Tasks / New / All / Template
    b) If you defined parameters for the template you have to fill them in now
    c) The objects that you added to that template are copied into the current workspace

Can you elaborate on how to add parameters to a template?  I cannot find any documentation on this.  What are the steps? Examples?
