OpenGoo 1.4 final is out!

Feng Office presents OpenGoo version 1.4, the latest release of its Web Office Suite.

The features introduced in this version increase the suite’s flexibility to adapt to several business scenarios, allowing managers to include custom properties on every system’s objects, and customs reports related to their particular needs.

Version 1.4 also tackles a long-standing request from the user community: better help, through an integrated “contextual help” system. Help is now introduced in small, contextual text boxes (guidance widgets) that can be closed by the users after they learn the concepts it explains. Also, the side-bar help (victim of a chronic abandonment) has finally been dropped, giving more room to the work canvas.

You can download OpenGoo version 1.4 here. Keep reading to learn more about some of the new features OpenGoo introduces since version 1.3.

Custom Properties

  • You can now define custom fields for an object type (Note, Company, Document, etc.).
  • Define the fields’ type (text, number, date, list, boolean) and other aspects like marking it as mandatory data, or defining its possible values.
  • Custom properties allow you to adapt OpenGoo to your business requirements.

Custom fields

Custom Reports

  • Create custom reports based on an object type.
  • Define conditions and parameters for the report. Now you can execute it whenever you want and optionally print it.
  • Useful to gather relevant object information in a report sheet.

Custom reports

New guidance widgets

  • Contextual help throughout the application explains how to use different functionalities.
  • New “Getting started” widget shows how to start using OpenGoo by following four easy steps.
  • Useful to help and guide new users, and can be easily hidden by advanced users.

Guidance widgets

Other improvements

  • Email notifications improved: more information is now shown, using the recipient’s language. Notifications can be sent asynchronously through a cron process.
  • Add references to external documents via URLs as files in OpenGoo.
  • User-configurable date format, first day of week (Monday or Sunday) and option to show week number in calendar
  • Document previews can be expanded to fill the whole page for easier viewing.
  • Timezones are now handled correctly.

Plus many bug fixes and other improvements.

  1. Is there any difference between pmfiles (http://software.drauta.com/pmfiles/) and opengoo?

  4. Great Job everyone!!! Upgrading was a breeze with no glitches, LOVE the new ADD button and lots of little bugs, etc. went away. After being chained to google apps and other online suites, OpenGoo is a Godsend and gives me so much more piece of mind. Thank you all for an amazing FOSS that incidentally also looks great on the tiny eee screen. awesome work!

  5. looks like pmfiles IS OpenGoo just in another language.

  6. @John - it looks as though PMFiles is a hosted solution using a branded version of OpenGoo. Not sure as to what version it is running though.

I would tend to go with your own hosting of the software to keep updated with new versions and patched yourself. I have 4 different instances running, each branded differently for clients and upgrades are a piece of cake - so long as you have a custom theme, not overriding the default.

In fact, an upgrade of all sites is happening as I type…

  7. pmfiles looks a lot like opengoo but i couldn’t find any references to it at their site.

So it is either a big coincidence which i seriously doubt or they are using opengoo to offer their service.

The developers of opengoo offer those services already. pmfiles is not listed as one of their partners either.

If i were looking for a hosted solution of opengoo i would go with the developers. Not only to support them but they probably will give you better support.

  8. Pmfiles seems exactly the same as opengoo…

It’s translated to Spanish but if you go to the demo you will see that it’s opengoo but with a different logo.

As Paul said, I don’t think it’s just a coincidence. It seems they are selling opengoo as their own product under the name of Pmfiles… Where has business ethics gone?

  9. Is it legal to sell open source software if they didn’t reference opengoo?

    Comment by Keith — May 26, 2009 @ 10:00 am

  10. @Keith: in my opinion, it’s totally legal. they don’t have to reference opengoo. but they have to comply with the GPL, which means they have to release their sourcecode, if they modify anything.
